I’m excited to share a new home series with you guys! We’ve been working on a number of home renovations over the last year and we’re finally starting to complete them. First up is our living room which is the most lived-in room in the house. I wanted everything to feel relaxed and cozy. All of the fabrics we chose are spill-proof and the distressed finishes of most of the pieces makes the “lived in” look feel purposeful. We went with mostly Restoration Hardware furniture and added in modern details to keep the room from feeling too rustic.

One of my favorite things about this room is the two-story windows which bring in a lot of light, but finding drapery was impossible. I didn’t want to wait for custom drapery so I actually found a DIY for these dropcloth curtain which I washed and had hemmed to fit the space. No one has ever guessed they’re made of dropcloth! I bought 4 panels for extra width and had them sewn together.

I wanted to keep this room more masculine because so many rooms in our house are ultra feminine (I love Parisian chic). To soften things up a bit, I incorporated some greenery – how amazing is this faux fig tree from NDI? One of the last purchases for this room were these grain sack pillows – which I ended up having to buy twice after our sweet (?) little Luna chewed off the corners (gotta love the puppy stage!). fashion blogger mia mia mine living room
Ok, but seriously how can you be mad at that face?

I love neutrals so I knew I wanted to paint everything lighter as soon as we moved in. We ended up experimenting with so many different paint colors and even painted our whole kitchen white before realizing it was just too stark and cold. We finally settled on Gray Mist by Benjamin Moore – which was honestly the toughest decision we made! I’m so happy to have that all over with.

Luna’s favorite room in the house is the living room because she loves basking in the sunlight during the day so when we shot these photos she had to be in them. It’s her afternoon nap spot.

After purchasing our house two years ago, I thought I would have everything done right away, but after realizing how many decisions have to be made about every little detail – I quickly realized this was going to be a longer process than I anticipated. Interior décor has always been one of my passions since I was a little girl so having the full reigns to decorate our first house has been such a fun project for me. I think the biggest thing that I didn’t anticipate was how difficult it can be to translate my style into an already existing home. Our home was built as a modern farmhouse – which I love, but I also love touches of glamour. After endless searches on how to marry the two styles (and creating way too many Pinterest boards), I finally realized that it was ok to incorporate different styles.

xo, Maria
