One of the most common questions I get is regarding where we live. So many people think we’re NYC-based and while we have spent a fair amount of time there over the years, we are happy to call Minnesota home. Most of my street style pics resemble the streets of NYC so I totally understand why people would think we live there. The truth is, we love the city life, but after spending over 10 years living in urban areas (in Minneapolis and Los Angeles), we decided to buy our first home in a suburb out near the country in Minnesota – where both grew up. We love the outdoors (and so do our dogs) so finding an area where we could spread out, go on runs in our neighborhood and long drives through the nearby countryside; was always our goal. We don’t live too far from the heart of the city, but just far enough for it to feel like an escape.
This past weekend we got a lot of snow (almost 13′”) which normally would be really disheartening as we’re all ready for spring weather this time of year, but it was so beautiful to see all the trees lined with snow, we couldn’t help, but love it. On Saturday morning, when we took the dogs outside, all the trees on our street were covered in frozen snow – they looked like glass. It was one of the most magical winter scenes I’ve ever seen. I wish I would have grabbed the camera! We were both in awe so we decided to pack the dogs in the car and go out on a drive to see more of the winter wonderland. It was beyond beautiful! We took these pictures while we were out exploring. The dogs love going on car rides because they know we always let them out to explore a new place. A lot of people don’t know much about Minnesota other than it’s cold – which it is for a good part of the year. While I love snow and winter in general, I don’t love the arctic temps we can get here. That said, there’s a lot that Minnesota has to offer that people that don’t live here might not know. Minnesota often comes in among the top places to live in the country because we have great schools, fairly affordable living and most people have a good work/life balance. We have a lot of Fortune 500 companies here and rank second in the country for the most Fortune 500 companies per capita. We also rank No. 1 as the happiest state so the cold is not as depressing as most people think! While the winters are long, the summers are pretty amazing here. While we were living in Los Angeles, we actually gained a whole new appreciation for Minnesota summers. Whenever we’d come visit our families here in the summers, we were always amazed at how green everything was as we flew in. LA summers are always so hot that the sun burns up all the green trees and grass so everything is brown. Minnesota is also the land of 10,000 lakes so there’s always somewhere nearby to go for a swim. It really is a great state so come visit!
