3 Tricks To Elevate An All Black Look

If you’re like me all black is one of your go to outfit combinations. There’s nothing chicer to me than head-to-toe black styled with statement heels and a great bag. While I’ll admit it’s not always the most inspired outfit, it’s one that you can never go wrong with and will always look put-together. All black doesn’t have to be boring; there are some easy tricks to elevate even the most basic black pieces. Here are three tricks that I swear by.
Go Monochromatic
There’s a reason the fashion industry loves all black. Do you ever notice how most stylists and their assistants are typically dressed in all black? The secret is you can buy even the most budget-friendly pieces, style them in a monochromatic outfit and they instantly look more expensive. Not to mention black is the most slimming color.
Mix High And Low Pieces
Budget-friendly black pieces are a no-brainer, but I also believe in investing in black pieces too because of the versatility of them. I love mixing low-end black pieces with higher-end ones to help elevate them.
Find A Great Tailor
This blazer is my favorite black blazer in my closet right now. I just got it tailored at the waist to make it fit tighter to my body for a more slimming silhouette. I think that’s one of the keys when buying black pieces – if they need to be tailored definitely have them brought in. Of course you want to weigh the price of tailoring relative to the price of the item, but even budget-friendly pieces make sense to have tailored if you think you’ll get a lot of wear out of them. I’ve been taking more and more pieces to my tailor lately, there’s nothing like a great fit. That’s one of the biggest things about expensive pieces – they’re typically tailored a lot better than off-the-rack fast fashion pieces. I’ve been taking a lot of my camis to the tailor lately too. Nothing drives me crazier than a neckline that just doesn’t stay in the right place. When it comes to denim I actually prefer to DIY the hem myself with a sharp pair of scissors (like I did here). The raw hemline just feels edgier and more modern to me.
