Monthly Shopping Guide: What To Buy In August

This month I’m kicking off a new monthly shopping guide series where I’ll be sharing what I am buying each month and what I think you should be buying to stay on top of the latest trends. I always start a new month by editing my closet and making a list of which pieces I feel like I am missing from my wardrobe.
Whether it’s trying out a new trend, replacing wardrobe staples or finally investing in a designer piece that I’ve been coveting – I try to be strategic with what I buy each month. As I get older, I find that investing in quality over quantity makes so much more sense. I’ve learned to appreciate pieces that can stay in my wardrobe for seasons to come. Of course I don’t splurge on everything in my closet, it definitely makes sense to buy more affordable pieces for trendier items while I invest in pricier options for pieces that I know I’ll wear a lot and want to last.
Each month I’m going to share my picks for different budgets. I’ll share the trendier pieces that I love and that I think are worth trying out and the pieces that I feel are worth investing in to anchor your wardrobe.
August tends to be a transitional month. It’s obviously still summer, but fall items start hitting stores now and the best pieces tend to sell out. I’ve learned that if I have my eye on a designer piece, it’s best to buy it before the season officially kicks off. Once you start seeing the hottest designer piece on everyone, it’s nearly impossible to track down. There were a few pieces that I regretted not buying last winter so I made sure to go on the waitlist or pre-order items for spring in the winter months – I bought my Chanel espadrilles way back in January!
As far as more affordable pieces for August, I like to buy pieces that will easily transition from summer to fall. Layering is key in the fall so buying lighter layers to wear now makes sense. August is also a great month to buy accessories that you can wear now to refresh pieces already in your wardrobe and you can repurpose them in the fall too.
