Save Vs. Splurge: Fall Coats You Need Now

comments
Building a fall wardrobe can be intimidating knowing how steep prices can get when it comes to staples like coats. I’ve said before that fall and winter are the two seasons where I spend most on clothes for good reason. It’s important to have quality pieces that actually keep you warm. A fall coat will always be one of those essential items. Whether you prefer a lightweight trench or a heavyweight parka, there’s no doubt that a collection of fall coats will take you a long way. Since it’s the most visible item, it needs to be the highlight piece that pulls you together. If you’re looking for a few coats worth buying, check out my favorite fall coats below – and find out which ones are worth saving and splurging on.
Where I Splurge…
Camel (also a save here too)
The camel coat is a classic silhouette that I constantly rotate in and out of my closet because it always looks effortlessly polished. Given the neutral shade, it’s also incredibly easy to work with from distressed jeans to a little black dress and everything in between. I love how it transitions seamlessly from day to night in an instance! And for that reason, it’s definitely one worth splurging on!

Trench
When it comes to trench coats, nothing beats the tailoring and the quality of Burberry! I have worn my Burberry trench coat for a few years now, but I already know it’s going to last forever. I really appreciate how durable and stylish they are. A high-quality trench coat is worth investing in because it’ll keep you warm and dry through mild, rainy weather.

Real Leather
Leather jackets are one of my favorite transitional jackets to wear as we make the switch from summer to fall. What’s great about leather jackets is that they can be worn anytime and for any occasion. They also happen to be one of those pieces that you can just throw on and go. It’s my outerwear of choice when I don’t have a lot of time to put an outfit together.

Shearling
A true shearling coat is one that’s made from or lined with sheep wool, and it’s one that I consider a staple in my wardrobe. There’s nothing cozier and softer. My favorite shearling jackets are the biker styles because they’re perfect for casual wear and off-duty days.

Parka
With late fall temperatures as frigid as they are here in Minnesota, a high-grade, down parka is just what you need to withstand the cold. My go-to brand for parkas is Canada Goose. These parkas are surprisingly lightweight, which allows you to layer up as appropriate. Although they’re extremely expensive, I don’t think you can put a price on staying warm. Plus, Canada Goose offers a lifetime guarantee on their coats!

Where I Save…
Duster
Lightweight outerwear is a must at the onset of fall, and the duster coat is one of my favorites to wear. From slinky robes to flowy kimonos, the ankle-grazing duster offers the right amount of weight and coverage. You can find plenty of them for less than $100 from Missguided, Asos, and Forever 21.

Faux Leather
If you’re not looking to spend a large sum of money on a leather jacket or prefer a cruelty-free option, faux leather is the way to go. Brands like Topshop, BlankNYC, and H&M offer a stylish variety that are perfect for everyday wear. And many of them look more expensive than they actually are!

Faux Fur
I am a huge fan of faux fur coats because they always look glamorous whether you’re pairing them with jeans or a slinky dress. I’m loving all the fun prints and color ways I’m seeing them in this season. Head to Revolve, Nordstrom, or Asos for faux fur coats that won’t break the bank!

Camel (also a splurge here too)
The great thing about timeless classics is that you can always find affordable options that look just as chic. The camel coat is one of those pieces. If you’re looking for an alternative to my splurge-worthy picks above, you’ll find plenty from brands like Topshop and H&M.

Faux Shearling
Real shearling moto jackets can be extremely expensive as seen above, so I’m grateful for faux shearling pieces that make the trend accessible to everyone. It’s one of the coziest styles to bundle up in when temperatures drop!
