6 Cozy and Chic Outfit Combinations For Winter Temps

The last few weeks have already felt like winter in Minnesota. Since most of the year is frigid cold here, layering is an essential part of my winter looks. Having lived here for quite some time, I know how difficult it can be to come up with chic outfit combinations after the first pass of winter. So I usually shop for pieces that can be easily mixed and matched. This helps ensure I’ll maximize every piece and that I can get multiple looks out of them. If you’re on the search for interesting but chic outfit combinations for winter, scroll through a few of my favorite formulas below. You’ll be able to wear several variations of these till spring. The best part is, I’m sure you already own most of the foundational pieces, such as turtlenecks and skinny jeans. On another note, I’ll be taking over the LikeToKnow.it Instagram account today, so tune in for more of my winter style and a little outfit inspo.
Winter Coat + Chunky Sweater + Over The Knee Boots
Mango Ivory Coat | Mango Sweater Dress | Stuart Weitzman Over-The-Knee Boots (better for budget here) |Saint Laurent Sunset Mini Bag | Karen Walker Sunglasses
It oftentimes gets so cold in Minnesota, that I find myself living in chunky sweaters. One of my favorite ways to dress up this piece is with a pair of over-the-knee boots. You can style it with or without jeans. Even though it can seem like a basic outfit, it always looks chic – and can be worn anywhere. To switch up the look, experiment with different accessories such as a wool fedora or a plaid scarf. The swap of a winter coat can also make all the difference in the world.
Shearling Jackets + Sweater + Distressed Jeans
Similar Black Biker Jacket (exact version from H&M last year) | Similar H&M Sweater | Asos Black Denim (runs TTS) | Christian Louboutin So Kate Heels | Givenchy Antigona Bag | Saint Laurent Sunglasses | Herschel Beanie Hat
A shearling coat is super practical and is great for everyday wear. When I’m wanting more of a street style vibe, I love wearing biker style shearling jackets with distressed jeans. Real shearling jackets can get super pricey, but there are more affordable options that are just as soft and cozy.
Faux Fur Coat + Turtleneck Sweater + Jeans
Jocelyn Feather Bolero (also here, wearing a P/S) | Intermix Cashmere Turtleneck Sweater (wearing a P) | Parker Smith White Crop Jeans (run TTS) | Chloe Faye Bag | Janessa Leone Hat (exact sold out, similar here and here, better for budget here) | Gianvito Rossi Suede Heels
A faux fur coat is a one of my winter must-haves. It’s such a fun statement piece and makes any outfit a little more glam. The added warmth is perfect for the cold winters we have in Minnesota. You can wear it layered with a simple turtleneck top and skinny jeans. Since faux fur coats tend to look dressier, I like wearing them with pointed toe pumps to play up that elevated vibe.
Monochromatic Outfit + Statement Coat
Mango Gray Coat | Endless Rose Gray Sweater (also similar here) | Levi’s Denim (in ‘Washed Black’) | Christian Louboutin Heels | Saint Laurent College Bag (exact color sold out, similar on sale here) | Saint Laurent Sunglasses
I admit that wearing a never ending cycle of jeans and sweaters can get tiring. So whenever I feel like I have nothing to wear, pulling together a monochromatic outfit is my no-fail solution. I’m a huge fan of neutral monochrome looks such as cream, gray, and black. They look so effortlessly chic especially paired with a statement coat (I’m obsessed with wrap and belted styles!).
Leggings + Sneakers + Puffer Vest
Nike Down Vest (wearing an XS) | Nike Hoodie (wearing an XS) | Spanx Faux Leather Leggings (wearing an XS, also here) | Nike Sneakers (run TTS) | Givenchy Antigona Bag (on sale now) | Quay Sunglasses | Halogen Cashmere Beanie
Sometimes, comfort is the best option, which means pulling out your comfiest leggings, sneakers, and a puffer vest or jacket. The puffer vest is a perfect piece for creating cozy layered looks in the winter time. All you have to do is add the right accessories such as a pompom beanie and sunglasses for a chic, off-duty outfit.
Parka + Skinny Pants + Winter Boots
Triple Fat Goose Parka (wearing an XS) | Similar Pompom Beanie | Similar Burberry Scarf | Blank Denim Faux Leather Leggings (run TTS) | Sorel Boots | Gucci Marmont Bag |Saint Laurent Sunglasses
You won’t catch me wearing heavy duty winter boots everyday, but there’s no other way to get around when it’s snowing outside. I swear by my Sorel boots and down parka (I rotate between Triple Fat Goose and Canada Goose) whenever I’m taking the dogs out. Both pieces are winter proof and keep me super warm. Since the boots are perfect for tucking skinny jeans into, they’re easier to style than you think!
