The Best Wardrobe Pieces To Save On

Over the last few weeks, I have spoken countless times about the pieces in your closet that you should splurge on. However, I wanted to turn the conversation the other way by discussing the best wardrobe pieces to save on. There’s no denying that the best outfits include a mix of high and low – and it’s often the more affordable pieces that really help you anchor your wardrobe. These could include ephemeral items you might wear for one season, staple pieces with trendier details, or even just simple basics that you should always have on hand. Read on to see where I choose to opt for more affordable pieces in my wardrobe.

Jeans

Jeans are definitely a staple in my wardrobe. And while I do love premium designer jeans, you can find some reasonably priced options that look just as stylish and also last a long time. Some of my favorite places to shop for affordable jeans are Asos and Nordstrom for Levi’s and Topshop.

Pants

In addition to denim, trousers and other bottoms are great wardrobe pieces to save on, especially the trendier styles. This season, I have been loving faux-leather pants for occasions when I am going out at night or want an edgier daytime look. Their versatility makes a great addition to every wardrobe. I am also a fan of wide leg trousers and satin joggers.

Skirts

It can be beneficial to splurge on the perfect pencil skirt that fits like a glove, but for everything else, you can opt for non-designer. Skirts can be trend driven, so it’s better to save in this category. From embellished and ruffle details to asymmetrical hemlines or animal print, I love wearing skirts to create flirty, feminine ensembles. Nordstrom, Asos, and Revolve are great resources for finding trendy and flattering skirts.

Button-Downs

I love a good button down and they continue to be an essential part of my wardrobe all year round. They easily go from the office to the weekend and instantly add a classic touch to any outfit. Although I do own a variety of quality button downs, I also have my fair share of affordable ones that I rotate through in different colors, patterns and materials.

Lightweight Knits

Everyone knows I have a weakness for sweaters. When it comes down to lightweight fabrics, I tend to go the more affordable route because they don’t need to be as thick as a chunky sweater. Lighter knit tops are perfect for throwing on with jeans when you need a last minute, no fuss outfit.

Tees & Tanks

Lastly, when it comes to saving on pieces within your closet, tees and tanks are a no brainer. Since they are often used as casual items or layering devices, they don’t always require a huge financial investment. I love stocking up on basic tees and tanks in black and white so I can use them throughout the year.

xo, Maria
