While I love living in denim and basics when working from home, I always feel my best in more polished pieces. Spring is one of the best seasons for mixing the two elements since you can play with lighter layers and fashion-forward pieces. I love that I can always temper a fun dress with a modest jacket or play up a simple top with a trendy skirt. One of my favorite places to shop for outfits like this is Intermix because I can always get a hold of the latest trends and find pieces that you won’t see anywhere else since they have an exclusive offering from some of my favorite brands. Their selections often align so much with my style that I can really mix and match any piece with my current wardrobe. Since versatility is a key factor in my shopping habits, I wanted to share some of my tips and favorite pieces to take your outfits from office to happy hour.

Trade your neutral blazer for a stylish jacket

As much as much I love neutral blazers, spring is such a great season to switch it up at the office. Since it’s not as cold anymore, you can really experiment with new silhouettes, colors, and fabrics. Currently, I’m loving tweed fabrications and fringe details. Both are a great way to make a basic office ensemble feel festive and fresh. Plus, when you wear it out for dinner or drinks, you’ll look less like you came straight from work.

Add a bold pop of color

Once spring comes into full swing, I’m all about trendy statement tops. Whether it’s a specific color or silhouette I’m looking for, I know I can always find it on Intermix. I love mixing up workwear with bold colors in the spring because it looks so crisp, especially if you’re typically wearing neutral colors. Start small with a bright top that you can wear underneath a dark jacket or cardigan. Then for the evening, lose the jacket and opt for a skirt with a higher hemline. I’ve always loved this classic A.L.C. tank which comes in a number of colors, but this red Poppy color is exclusive to Intermix.

Play with prints

Patterns like animal print, floral, and polka dots are great for the office or after hours. Leopard print shoes are one of my obsessions this season. These heeled sandals can work for the office with floor-grazing trousers. For happy hour, you can let them stand out with a mini skirt. I’m obsessed with this Michelle Mason white leather skirt (another Intermix exclusive piece) – which is perfect for spring and the quality is amazing! You can also anchor printed pieces with a tailored jacket – your styling options here are really endless!

Wear sleek heels

I feel like I can never have too many heels. They’re just such a great way to dress up an outfit. Sleek pumps and ankle strap sandals are both great styles that you can transition from the office to drinks. These Schutz heels look a lot like my favorite Manolo’s with the PVC strap and tie ankle strap, which look super modern. They’re so sleek and sexy that I know I’ll get great use out of them for spring and summer.

Accessorize

Finally, it’s important to strategically pick your accessories and jewelry too. My best practice is to ensure that anything I wear goes well with multiple outfits. I’ll usually stick to dainty necklaces and rings that I don’t need to take off since they can get tangled and lost. However, I’ll often pack statement earrings that I can fit inside an evening clutch. A clutch is great because it usually slides right into my work bag.

xo, Maria
