How to Style a Baseball Cap

Baseball caps don’t get enough credit for how they are often the perfect finishing touch to an outfit. I just love how they exude that indescribable, easy level of cool into your style. Whether it’s getting around town with day 3 hair or going for an early morning run, there’s plenty of reasons to wear a baseball cap when you’re on the go. It’s a really quick and easy way to cover up a bad hair day – or even to show off a sleek ponytail during an afternoon running errands. I find myself leaving the house with one on my head more often than not! It can seem daunting to pair such a casual topper with a feminine outfit, so I wanted to share some of my favorite ways to style a baseball cap today.
Street Style Chic
Street style and athleisure aren’t going anywhere any time soon, and baseball caps are as versatile as any must-have item in your wardrobe. It has that classic Americana vibe, which I can’t get enough of in the summertime. I’ve been really into the new Carhartt X ’47 collection, which comes in colorways that are so easy to style with most of your basic looks. I love how they lend a cute and sporty touch to a streamlined blazer and jeans outfit or a denim jacket over a girly summer dress. When it comes to finding a good baseball cap, Carhartt’s quality of the textiles and threads they use will definitely last a long time.
Travel in Style
The most underrated item in an airport uniform is a baseball cap. Especially when I am in-transit, I want to keep my style as effortless and low-key as possible. My Yankees cap is a great match for leggings or skinny jeans. On a practical level, hats also regulate your body heat and keep your head warm for those drastic temperature changes in and out of flight. Plus, it’s always fun to represent your favorite team or city when you’re away from home.
Summer Heat
When it comes to keeping cool in the summer and especially protecting your face and eyes from harmful UV rays, having a baseball cap is key! The sun is probably one of the harshest elements we go through daily. A baseball cap is always a nice casual addition to prevent your skin from getting burnt. It’s great to bring with you on vacations or weekend getaways. I often pair mine with denim cut offs, espadrilles, and a light jacket.
Casual Cool
Baseball caps can be dressed up with heels too. I love how they look with distressed jeans, a bodysuit, and a pair of strappy sandals. The masculine touch does a great job playing down more feminine pieces. I’ll also often wear a dark-colored baseball cap with tailored pieces, such as leather trousers and a blazer.
