With the passing of Memorial Day Weekend, summer vacations officially start now. This also means the return of cute bathing suits that definitely put you in that summer mood. So, grab your sunscreen, towel, and bikini because beach season is back! Instead of waiting for your next vacation, this is the perfect time to dive into fresh swimsuit trends. Whether you’re all for long walks on the beach or lounging by the poolside, I thought I’d share my summer swim guide and breakdown the different styles I’ll be wearing for every occasion and destination.
If you are lucky enough to have a tropical vacation on the horizon, this is certainly an excuse to upgrade your swimwear! One of my current favorite on-trend styles are the high-waisted bikinis. I think they are so flattering on every body type and look great in photos too! I tend to favor high-waisted suits in solids because they’re so slimming and elongate the legs. Just add an oversized straw hat and some cute slides and you are ready for a relaxing tropical getaway.
If you own plenty of high-waisted bikinis, then it’s a good time to try a high-cut leg set. They’ve been super trendy on Instagram and I love the lengthening effect they have, especially with a wide waistband. These styles are perfect for any summer occasion whether you’re sunbathing at the beach or taking a dip on a rooftop pool.

Pool parties are a great excuse to bring out a more vibrant swimsuit. Just like we continue to see neons trending in clothing, we will continue to see a lot of bikinis in highlighter hues. You’ll have no trouble finding a neon bathing suit in high waisted bottoms, one pieces, and bandeaus. Bright yellows, greens, and hot pinks also tend to accentuate a dark tan, so be sure to take advantage of that!
Another swimwear trend I’ve been obsessing over are belted styles. I’m a sucker for anything waist-accentuating and a belted bikini or one piece is the best way to flatter your shape. The cinched waist look in prints or solids works for any occasion regardless of who may be around.
If you are getting away this summer with couples or family members, you can tone down your beach look with a chic one-piece. Within the one-piece category, there are tons of different elements that make a suit stand out. Solid one-pieces neutrals are always classic and timeless while ruffle edges and floral prints make for a fun, vacation-ready look. Be sure to look for added detail like a low-cut back, built-in belt, or a halter neck.
Summer also means the return of really fun outdoor events like music festivals. Incorporating a bikini into your look is a great way to be trendy, while keeping cool! This is the perfect time to play around with materials and textures. Crochet bikinis are practically made for these instances. Plus, you can mix and match it with the rest of your wardrobe for a festival-ready outfit. For instance, wearing a crochet bikini top with a pair of high-waisted denim shorts.
If you are planning on getting away for a long weekend, something more relaxed like a smocked bikini will do the trick. I have been seeing a ton of these styles in solid colors and delicate embroidery – and I’ve been loving the retro vibe. Little touches like tie details and tortoiseshell rings add a lot of elegance to this feminine beach look.
