Hot weather is around the corner and that definitely brings out my more feminine side as I embrace every possible dress trend with open arms. Each summer, nothing gets me more excited than seeing runway trends translated into midi and maxi dresses. Although I usually opt for affordable styles for everyday wear, I’ll often splurge on a stunning designer piece for weddings, special getaways, or other formal occasions that may come up. Whenever I’m online shopping, I always love browsing through formal dresses even if I don’t yet have an occasion to wear one – it’s nice to have one on hand just in case!
I recently found this stunning red lace dress at Nordstrom and I knew it’d be perfect for our trip to Naples this week. I love getting a little glam on getaways for nice dinners out and I couldn’t wait to wear this one. I have been finding so many great designer dresses at Nordstrom lately and wanted to put together a guide to my favorite summer occasion dresses. Most of these options are versatile enough to take you through the beginning of fall.
Lace
Time and time again, I always cave into a beautiful lace dress. It’s perfect for any summer event because you can tone it down with espadrilles and a round handbag or go all out glam with luxe heels and a clutch. I’m always on the lookout for embellishments and beaded details that make lace feel even more special. Floral
Summer wouldn’t feel right without a little bit of floral. Traditional floral A-line dresses and maxi dresses continue to trend this season, but 2019 brings a ton of new options to try. I’m loving the floral dress update in prairie-style cuts, pleats, and barely-there slip styles. Whenever I’m feeling uninspired with florals, one of the brands I always look to is Dolce & Gabbana, which is also carried at Nordstrom. Their bold, whimsical prints always makes me want to throw on a floral dress.
Ruffles
Nothing makes a dress feel quite as special as ruffles. Whether this detail is tossed onto the hem of a dress or seen in multiple tiers, ruffles are a great way to spice up an occasion dress. I’m always stunned by how incredibly feminine yet sophisticated ruffles dresses are, especially with a midi-length hem. Floor-grazing ruffle maxi dresses are equally stunning too.
Puff Sleeves
One of the newer dress updates that I’ve been loving this season is the puff sleeve. The statement sleeve and shoulder detail are completely reminiscent of vintage ball gowns and put a romantic spin on a simple dress. Whether you opt for moderately puffed sleeves or a voluminous style, this is definitely a trend to watch out for this summer.
Linen
Linen dresses can feel elevated too. This natural fabrication makes for a chic, refined look that is great for those extra hot days. I love pairing my linen dresses with panama hats and strappy heels for an outfit that screams vacation mode. Currently, Nordstrom’s mix of designer linen dresses are suitable for any special occasion taking place in the sweltering heat.
