Happy first day of fall! There are so many things I love about fall fashion, but outerwear has to be the thing that gets me most excited. Living in a cold climate means that it’s not only fashionable, but essential too! I’ve been adding to my fall coat collection over the last month and today I wanted to share some of my new favorites and some pieces that I’ve had for years. From teddy bear coats to camel coats to leather motos and trenches – this list of my favorite styles will ensure you’ll have a well-rounded outerwear assortment no matter the weather.

While some of these pieces are investments, I am very mindful of which pieces of clothing I splurge on. I always make sure that I’m going to get a lot of wear out of the pieces that I invest in. I believe that splurging once on a piece that will last for years is not only a more sustainable choice, but one that will elevate your wardrobe. Of course I love affordable finds too, so I’m mixing in some fast fashion options that are really great quality and should hold up well. 1. Cozy Teddy Bear

There’s nothing more cozy than a teddy bear coat. I always add a new one to my wardrobe in the fall and this year, I splurged on my dream one, the Max Mara Teddy Bear Icon coat. It’s made out of camel wool so it’s incredibly warm. It has a very oversized fit – which I actually love. It drapes so beautifully. This one has sold out every season since its inception.

2. Luxe Faux Fur

Faux fur has come a long way! This faux fur coat feels as soft as the real thing. It’s incredibly luxe and I love the soft pinkish, camel color. It goes with everything!

3. Chic Leopard Print

Another coat that I buy a new version of each fall and winter is a leopard coat. Leopard print comes in so many variations so you can never have enough! This one is more muted than most – which I love.

4. Soft Shearling

I love how luxe and warm a shearling coat is for fall and winter. This long, oversized version is ultra soft and cozy. The double-breasted button-up style makes it feel appropriate enough for the office too.

5. Classic Burberry Trench

Probably the most iconic fall coat, the Burberry trench has become a cult classic. This was one of my first wardrobe investments years ago and there’s never been a day that I’ve regretted it. It’s amazing quality and the classic Burberry print will never go out of style.

6. Burberry Poncho

This Burberry poncho is one of my favorite pieces to bring out every fall. I’ve had it for a couple of years now and I’ve gotten so much wear out of it. Unfortunately, this exact version is sold out everywhere (although I’m hoping to get more for the Mia Mia Mine Shop soon). There are several new versions of it that are beautiful too.

7. Lightweight Camel

This shawl-collar camel coat is such a great fall transitional piece since it’s so lightweight. I’ve already gotten so much wear out of mine. The oversized fit drapes so nicely over your shoulders for a chic and minimalistic look.

8. Wool Camel

For colder days, this camel coat is a great alternative to the one above. It’s long length and wool-blend material make it warm enough for even the coldest days here in Minnesota. I love the oversized lapels for a structured look.

9. Edgy Leather Biker

Above everything else, a leather moto jacket is the wardrobe staple I swear by. I get more wear out of a leather jacket than any other piece of outerwear in my closet. I wear mine year-round. This one I’ve had in my wardrobe for years, but my next one will be an All Saints one.

10. Unstructured Wool

I always keep a gray wool coat (or two) on hand in the fall. Paired with black or white, it’s a great modern neutral that feels elevated yet understated. This year, I added this unstructured coat to my wardrobe. It’s lightweight enough to wear now as we transition to fall weather. It also comes in camel.

11. Gray Wool

Another gray wool coat that’s chic and affordable is this one from H&M. Again, the oversized lapels are one of the things I love most about this one (not to mention the price tag).

12. Off-White Wool

This off-white wool coat is such a beautiful tone. It looks so much more expensive than it is. I love how it pairs with my favorite bag for the season, the Bottega Veneta in Mist (currently available in my shop). This coat comes in black and gray too!
