My Favorite Cocktail Dresses for Fall

I rarely get to wear dresses, but I know fall tends to be a popular time for weddings, family portraits, and engagement sessions. Wearing a stunning dress only makes a special occasion more memorable. Plus, with the holidays around the corner, it’s a good idea to stock up on a few options for those parties that come up at a moment’s notice. Today, I rounded up my favorite cocktail dresses that will help you guys get ahead on party season.

Luxe Velvet

I went shopping recently for a special dress to wear on my birthday. When I stumbled upon this gorgeous piece, I knew it was the one. The rich velvet texture and stunning jewel tone are so luxe and feel just right for the crisp, cool weather. The dress just sold out, but I linked several similar styles below.

Metallic & Sequin

Sequin and metallic fabrics are always my go-to for the holidays, but it’s made an early appearance this year. They’re always so flashy and fun to wear. During fall, I like mixing it with edgier textures like a leather jacket or wool blazer to tone it down.

Moody Florals

Cocktail attire typically calls for dresses that end at or above the knee; however, dress codes have become more flexible and I think a dark floral dress in a long, flowy length is perfect. My go-to brands for floral dresses are Yumi Kim, Astr The Label, and Reformation. I wore the Yumi Kim dress above last year to a fall wedding and got so many compliments on it.

Leopard Print

Leopard is becoming such a popular print that I find them great for special fall occasions. An all over black variation gives it an upgrade, but even a traditional leopard print can look chic with the right silhouette and unexpected twists. I recommend pairing it with neutral accessories to let the leopard do the talking.

LBD

The little black dress is a wardrobe staple that you can never go wrong with. There are so many details to look for that keep it from feeling basic – think lace, laser cutouts, or a unique neckline. I’m even loving this simple style that’s so easy to jazz up with statement accessories and killer pair of heels.

Lace

Lace works for any time of the year, especially with added details like ruffles and pleats. I love how it feels feminine and a little sexy but never over the top. Opting for darker colors like navy, burgundy, or emerald will make a lace dress more appropriate during the fall and winter months.
