fashion blogger mia mia mine wearing a canada goose jacket and a gucci belt wtih husband philWinter officially starts in about 10 more days, and there couldn’t be a better time to upgrade your wardrobe to warmer, functional pieces. As much as I love trying out the latest trends, there are some tried-and-true pieces I always reach for in the winter. They span across anything from basic sweaters to chic outerwear and cozy accessories. Today, I thought it’d be fun to throw menswear into the mix since Phil and I often coordinate our outfits – even when it comes to basic everyday looks. We’ve gotten to a point now where we gravitate towards the same aesthetic and invest in quality pieces that will live on past a few seasons. Keep scrolling for our favorite winter wardrobe essentials.

Winter Parka

It’s so important to invest in high-quality outerwear pieces because they take such a beating in freezing temps. Phil and I swear by our Canada Goose parkas because they’re so durable and continue to hold up season after season. While the brand requires a big investment up front, it totally pays off. I linked more options below that are better for your budget too.

Perfect Denim

Phil and I both live in denim most of the year, but especially in the winter when subzero temperatures set in. I love distressed styles for more of a street chic vibe. Phil, on the other hand, prefers cleaner styles as they’re easier to dress up or down for guys.

Basic Sweater

Basic sweaters are ideal for both guys and girls. We love everything from chunky knit styles to slim turtlenecks and everything in between. It’s such a staple when you want to look more pulled together.

Cashmere Scarf

The trick to keeping your winter outfits cozy chic is in the accessories. A cashmere scarf is perfect because it not only keeps you warm but it’s super soft to the touch and feels amazing on the skin. In the winter, we keep our Burberry cashmere scarves on heavy rotation.

Tailored Coat

A neutral-toned tailored coat is perfect for when you want to look dressed up but stay warm. We love camel, black, gray and olive for more versatility. Whether you’re off to the office, a date night, or formal event, this topper always feels right.

Black Pants

It’s obvious that we love denim, but black pants also sit at the top of our must-have list. Think leather pants, chinos, joggers, and trousers. We love that you can style them casually with sneakers or elevate them with a pair of boots. The best part is, black bottoms basically hide anything.

Layering Essentials

Our winter style is all about layers. Although it’s so important to have a good winter coat on hand, we sometimes prefer layers for quick errand runs. We’re both fans of cozy cardigans, layering tees, and puffer vests.

Dressy Boots

When you’re not in the mood for sneakers or snow boots, dressier boots come to the rescue. You can wear them with jeans, dresses or trousers (for the guys), and they just work. Phil’s picks are chelsea and chukka boots while mine comprise of tall, block-heeled styles.

Leather Moto Jacket

A leather jacket is such an edgy, cool layering piece. We love wearing them with sweaters and long-sleeve tees. And when the weather calls for more layers, you can easily throw on a heavier coat.

Neutral Blouse/Shirt

We love dark neutrals, but it can sometimes start to feel dreary in the winter. Light nude and white tops, whether it’s a basic tee or button-down blouse, brightens up an outfit – and looks so chic too.

Cozy Loungewear

On our off-duty days, we live in comfy activewear pieces. For me, that’s usually leggings, a puffer coat or vest, and a hoodie. I’m not into super athletic pieces, so I opt for styles that can fit into my everyday style. Phil swears by joggers and a hoodie.

Sneakers

Phil and I both love sneakers that easily transition from the gym to the street. They’re not only great for running around town in, but essential for when you’re traveling.

Beanie

Just like scarves, beanies always add a fun and cozy touch to an outfit. Plus, they actually keep your head nice and toasty in the winter. Phil prefers basic ribbed knit styles while I love a good pompom beanie.

Winter Boots

Winterproof boots are essential for treading through the snow. We’ve had our Sorel boots for years now and wear them every winter – they’re seriously so warm while being water and slip proof. Ugg and Moon Boot also make great winter boots.
