With uncertain times ahead of us, it makes more sense to streamline your wardrobe with pieces that make sense in and out of the house rather than buying into every trend. That’s why I wanted to share my ideal summer 2020 capsule wardrobe with you guys today. Instead of the traditional lace bodysuits and basket bags, I’m opting for more versatile styles that can be worn casually while you’re social distancing at home or dressed up as needed. The beauty of these items is that you can wear them well into fall – and bring them back out for future summers too. Keep scrolling for the essential items worth buying right now.
Outfit Details (above): Grayson White Linen Shirt (similar here and here) | Levi’s White Denim (wearing a 24) | Hermes Belt | Christian Louboutin White Heels (similar here, better for budget here) | Janessa Leone Hat (better for budget here) | Bottega Veneta Bag
White Button-Down top
White button-down tops are great for wearing all on their own as a cover-up, throwing over leggings or pairing with your favorite denim as seen above. As versatile as this piece can be, it definitely deserves a place in your summer 2020 capsule wardrobe.
Revolve Linen Blazer (wearing an XXS, better for budget here)
Blazer
A blazer is a year-round closet essential in my book. It looks amazing on or off duty – and always makes for the perfect high and low mix. This season, I’m leaning towards updated styles that tie at the waist, linen fabrications, and light neutrals.
Knit Tank Top
The knit tank top is one of the simplest yet trendiest things you can own this summer. They’re just as stylish indoors as they are in a public setting – and can be worn in infinite ways. Since this piece never goes out of style, you’ll be able to wear them for seasons to come.
Cami NYC Beaded Strap Cami (wearing an XS – size down)
Trendy Blouse
I’m all for easy, fuss-free styles that don’t feel bothersome but also look put together for everyday. That’s where the trendy statement blouse comes in – I can always count on it to keep things chic without being too constricting. You can even throw it on while you’re at home to switch up your usual t-shirt situation.
Levi’s Denim Shorts (run TTS)
Denim Essentials
One of my must-haves for a flawless summer look comes down to a good pair of jeans. High-rise, distressed denim is my default during the warmer months. They’re universally flattering and go with so many different top styles from casual knit tanks to flirty blouses and more.
Nordstrom Paperbag Shorts (wearing an XS)
Paperbag Shorts
My ideal summer style falls somewhere in between chic, modern, and casual. Paperbag shorts are one of those rare pieces that stretches seamlessly into any of those aesthetics. I always stock up on them throughout summer and they look incredibly stylish every time.
Wide Leg Trousers
When you’re tired of jeans and shorts, a pair of floor-grazing trousers never fails to look and feel great. They’re airy, breathable and lengthen your legs by miles. Simply throw on a crop top or bodysuit and you’re all set.
Revolve White Shirt Dress (wearing an XXS, better for budget here and here)
Summer Dress
The ideal summer dress should be able to take you from off-duty to night out with the simple swap of accessories and a pair of shoes. You have plenty of options in the dress department, but some of my favorites are a shirt dress, ruffled maxi, and the ruched mini.
Nordstrom Hoodie (wearing an XS) | Nordstrom Sweatshorts (wearing an XS)
Loungewear
I would have never considered loungewear in my capsule wardrobe in previous years, but I think these cozy, casual separates go without saying this summer. A pair of sweatshorts and a cropped hoodie provide maximum comfort without sacrificing style no matter where you’re headed.
Chanel Espadrilles (better for budget here)
Espadrilles
Espadrilles are a warm weather shoe staple for me. Their understated designs are perfect for wearing around the house or running errands in. They’re also one of the most comfortable footwear styles you can own. Whether you opt for a pair of slides, flats, or wedges, they’ll inject an effortless vibe to your everyday look.
