It’s no secret by now that blazers are my ultimate wardrobe must-have. I love layering it over any outfit because it always makes me look more polished – even if I’m just wearing jeans and a t-shirt. For years now, my go-to blazer has been the iconic Balmain blazer. Prior to that, I spent a lot of money trying to find the perfect dupe but often found myself disappointed with the fit and quality. When I finally splurged on the real thing, I realized how wonderful of an investment it was and ended up purchasing multiple colors. Lately, I’ve been getting so many questions about the sizing of the blazer, so I wanted to share my thoughts on that and cover some of the questions that I’m typically asked.

Is the Balmain blazer worth the money?

The Balmain blazer comes with a hefty price tag of $2,400, which is really expensive, but completely worth the money when I think about how often I wear mine. It’s the only blazer that I wear season after season. The good news is, the blazer has gone on sale multiple times – and is still on sale at SSENSE for almost $1,000 off. What size should I buy?

The Balmain blazer comes in European sizing, which can make it tricky to decide what size to buy. For reference, I would recommend following the Balmain sizing guide here. I typically wear an XS or a 0 (or 00 in some cases) and I felt that the blazer fit true to size. As most of you know, I’m petite with narrow shoulders and purchased a FR34 (XS). It’s fitted but not too tight so I’m able to layer it over basics in the summer as well as thicker knits in the fall and winter. If you’re curvier or prefer a looser fit, I would recommend going up one size.

Another thing I love about this blazer is the length – it falls just below the hips for me, which I find incredibly flattering. If you’re taller, the blazer will end up being shorter but should be equally flattering.

Where should I buy the Balmain Blazer?

So many retailers carry the Balmain blazer, including Nordstrom, Net-A-Porter, MyTheresa, Luisaviaroma, or the Balmain online shop itself. However, I would recommend shopping for it at SSENSE since there are so many great styles on sale right now.

What color should I buy?

You really can’t go wrong with any neutral color, but I think you would get the most wear out of black. I find that the black is more wearable throughout fall and winter and goes with everything. I own the white one and wear it most during the warmer months.

In terms of hardware, you can get the blazer with either gold or silver buttons. I absolutely love the gold buttons and feel that it makes the blazer look more luxe. I also tend to wear gold jewelry, so going for gold buttons made the most sense for me.

What fabric should I buy?

The Balmain blazer comes in various fabrics from wool to leather and tweed to denim. I own both the wool and tweed versions, but feel that the wool is the way to go. It’s more versatile and wearable in my opinion.
