My Fall 2020 Wardrobe Must-Haves To Upgrade Your Style

It can be hard to distinguish what to buy and what to pass on with so many stylish finds on the market. Instead of rounding up all the major fall trends to get on your radar, I thought I’d share the wardrobe must-haves that should be at the top of your fall shopping list.

I always recommend getting started for new season staples at Nordstrom because they have a well-rounded mix of luxury and affordable brands as well as trend-forward and timeless pieces. Their website is also incredibly easy to navigate no matter what you’re looking for. I’m often browsing the “New Arrivals” section to catch up on what’s trending. With just five to seven new pieces, you can easily create tons of new outfits for the new season ahead without breaking the bank. Keep scrolling for all the chicest must-haves that will upgrade your style this season.

Although I truly believe a blazer is a great layering piece year-round, fall is all about the plaid blazer. This one by Madewell is perfect because it’s slightly oversized, double breasted, and can be dressed up or down. I love wearing mine as a substitute for a coat when the weather isn’t quite cold enough. It makes such a chic pairing with denim or leather pants if you’re into that off-duty, cool-girl vibe.

I’ve always been leather obsessed once fall rolls around because it makes any outfit look instantly cooler. The sleek texture also has a tendency to elevate other basics in your wardrobe. If you want something a little more wearable than leather but dressier than denim, then try a pair of coated jeans. This pair of Joe’s Jeans comes in several gorgeous colors – and can almost pass for leather.

I’m sure you own a basic tee you love by now, but there’s no such thing as having too many when you frequently wear them. In previous seasons, I’ve gravitated towards fitted or cropped versions. However, a relaxed tee is the upgrade every girls needs this season. Look for details like an oversized fit, cutoff sleeves or padded shoulders to complete an effortless fall outfit.

Ribbed Midi Dress

If you’re looking for pieces that are equally stylish and comfortable, you can’t go wrong with a ribbed knit dress. This incredibly versatile piece looks just as good for a quick coffee run as it does for a conference call or a lunch date. Plus, your styling options are infinite when you consider the various jacket and shoe combinations you can put together with this one piece.

With fall officially here, it’s time to upgrade your knitwear collection. Button-down cardigans and cardigan coats are my go-to styles this season. I recommend trying one in a chunkier fabrication that can be worn with jeans – or layered over skirts and dresses.

Every year, we’re presented with new boot styles to freshen up our wardrobe. Although there are so many that I want, I tried to narrow down my must-haves to just three essential styles. I find that suede ankle booties, combat boots, and knee-high boots feel especially on trend. Whether you style them with a pair of high-waisted jeans, leggings, or wear them underneath a dress, no wardrobe is complete without one of these newer boot styles.
