The Fashion Trends To Ditch This Fall & What To Buy Instead

fashion blogger mia mia mine wearing a camel coat from abercrombie for fall 2020The beginning of a new season always motivates me to go through my closet and stash away the summer items I no longer need as well as any items I’ve outgrown from last year. This always helps me take stock of what I already have and what I still need to buy. While I’m at it, I wanted to share the fashion trends to ditch for the rest of the year – and what to replace them with. There’s obviously no absolute right or wrong choice when it comes to fashion, but hopefully this gives you some guidance on where to build your fall wardrobe. As always, I tried to pick out pieces that I know you’ll be able to wear into 2021 and beyond.

Trend to Ditch: Chunky Sneakers

What To Buy Instead: Knee-High & Chunky Lug Sole Boots

I never really got in on the chunky sneakers trend even though I thought they looked great on other girls. The aesthetic didn’t really fit into my style, so I’m honestly glad to see this trend fade out into the background. It’s being replaced with chunky lug sole boots, which includes my favorite combat boots, and knee-high boots. I find that boots are way more wearable if you have classy style – and they’re perfect for creating that street chic look.

Trend to Ditch: Dainty Jewelry

What To Buy Instead: Chunky Gold Chain Necklaces & Dome Rings

Although I won’t be stashing away my dainty jewelry completely, I definitely won’t be investing in anymore of them this season. Instead, I’ve been loving the chunky gold jewelry trend. From stacked bracelets to bold chain necklaces and dome rings, chunky gold jewelry is no doubt the season’s must-have accessory!

Trend to Ditch: Biker Shorts

What To Buy Instead: Leather Pants

You can also ditch the biker shorts as the weather cools down and replace them with leather pants. These faux leather leggings are the best replacement if you’re wanting to create a casual, comfy athleisure look. I also linked several of my favorite faux leather pants below that are great for dressing up.

Trend to Ditch: Micro Bags

What To Buy Instead: Oversized Pouches & Totes

The micro bag trend was fun to try, but it just wasn’t that practical for my daily needs. I’m so glad oversized tote bags and slouchy bags are coming back in a major way. You can carry them to and from work – and they make a chic travel companion too! I have so many on my wish list this season!

Trend to Ditch: Neon

What To Buy Instead: Neutrals

I have a hard time making neon tones work in my wardrobe unless it’s an accessory or a pair of shoes. So, I’d say it’s definitely one of the fashion trends to ditch this fall. Neutral shades, including chocolate brown, beige, cream, and camel are taking over, and I’m here for it. They make for some of the most elevated ensembles.

Trend to Ditch: Cold Shoulder Tops & Dresses

What To Buy Instead: Puff Sleeves

As much as I love off-the-shoulder and cold shoulder necklines, it’s another one of those pieces that you can skip out on if you already own a ton. This is the season to embrace puff sleeves and voluminous tops. They’re such a fun way to dress up denim.

Trend to Ditch: Straw Hat

What To Buy Instead: Fedora Hat

Finally, with summer officially over, you can also put away the straw hats until next year. To give your daily outfit that extra touch of chic, look to a wool fedora hat instead. There are so many trendy hat styles this season, like baseball caps and bucket hats, but I’d say that fedoras are the most timeless of them all.
