As winter winds down to an end these next few weeks, I’m starting to make room in my closet for new spring pieces. But since it’s still pretty cold out, I’ve been searching for budget-friendly, transitional items to take me out of this winter funk. It can be a tricky task if you’ve been wearing turtlenecks and bulky outerwear religiously like I have. However, the right retailers always make it easy – and you guys know that for me, it’s Nordstrom! Their New Arrivals section (here) is updated regularly, making it super easy to find the right mix of in-between season pieces and trendy spring styles. If you’re at a loss over what to wear during this transitional time, I’m sharing the only items worth buying before spring arrives.

Transitional Outerwear

Before you know it, the temperatures will be too warm for teddy bear coats and puffer jackets. Fortunately, you can go ahead and prepare for that now by grabbing lighter outerwear options that make layering a breeze. Think oversized shirt jackets, utility-inspired toppers, and trench coats.

Novelty Knits

I’ve racked up a collection of chunky sweaters these past few months, so I’ll need to stash them away and grab some spring-friendly options for those chilly mornings and warm afternoons. Nordstrom has so many cute lightweight knits with trendy necklines and romantic puff sleeves. These more playful iterations will take you right into spring while keeping you warm on a cold day.

White Denim

White denim is one of those pieces I wear year-round, but it definitely feels most refreshing in the spring. Nordstrom has a great selection of the trendiest cuts and washes, so you can test out your favorite whether that’s a straight-leg silhouette or a distressed, baggy style. 

Feminine Tops

There’s nothing like a fun, statement top to get me excited about spring. They’re the easiest thing to throw on with pants of any kind. I’ve been especially loving anything with a square or sweetheart neckline and lingerie-inspired designs – like corset tops. They’re great to wear now with cardigans and jackets but can also stand alone once the temperatures rise.

Matching Sets

You can never go wrong with loungewear sets these days. They’re so easy to dress up when you’re running out the door – but also the best thing to wear when you’re at home. Below, I’m sharing my favorites that prioritize comfort and style. Some of them are light enough that they’ll even carry you into summer.

Neutral Sneakers

Casual but chic is the name of the game when it comes to my transitional style. There’s no better way to achieve that than with some neutral sneakers. I’ve been obsessed with the Nike Daybreak Sneakers and love that Nordstrom carries them in so many fun color ways. Although clean white kicks will never go out of style, off white, pastel, and beige color combinations are definitely the chicest picks for Spring 2021.
