Summer style can mean different things for everyone, but for me, it’s all about casual, laidback vibes with a pinch of chic. That means having a strong arsenal of staples that can easily be mixed and matched. While I have my forever pieces that I always wear, like jeans and tees, it’s crucial for me to keep my wardrobe stocked with updated styles too. I thought I’d share five of the essential but modern items I’m relying on to keep things fresh. As always, I started my search at Nordstrom because I know their inventory is always stocked with the latest trends and It-brands of the moment.
Strong Shoulder Tops
If it isn’t obvious by now, strong shoulders and statement sleeves are the current trend I just can’t quit. I’m such a fan because this added detail has the power to transform a simple top into something fun and trendy. For example, this crewneck sweater will always be in style, but the puffed up sleeves make it feel especially relevant for right now.
A defining piece of my summer wardrobe is shorts. Since my legs are on the shorter side, I’ll take every opportunity I can to wear a thigh-grazing bottom that helps create the illusion of length. Anything goes from denim cutoffs to dressier, belted shorts. This pair that I’m wearing is under $100 and looks perfect styled up or down.
The Perfect Sundress
Feminine frocks are key to staying cool but glamorous whether you’re off to a tropical getaway or heading to a picnic in the park. I can always count on Nordstrom to have the best sundresses at any price point. There’s an iconic silhouette that comes with every year and season, but the hottest styles to shop this year are cutout dresses, maxi lengths, and ruffled pieces.
After spending most of the year in frigid temps, one of the things I look forward to wearing most are sandals! Strappy, 90’s-inspired hooves are all the rage and I’m here for themt! I’m especially digging lace-up designs, embellished straps, and quilted, Bottega-inspired heels.
Straw Hats & Totes
There’s just something about a straw hat or a canvas handbag that makes an outfit feel like summer. This trend has been going on for quite some time now, which goes to prove that it’s truly a classic worth investing in. This is the straw hat that I break out every summer – but you can steal the look for under $50 at Nordstrom (here).
