Over the years, I’ve built up an extensive collection of bags, which means there aren’t many options that immediately excite me anymore. However, one that I couldn’t stop thinking about since I laid eyes on it is the Gucci Horsebit 1955 Mini Handbag. It’s been a minute since I bought a Gucci bag, but I fell in love with the timeless design of this one the moment I laid eyes on it. You may even recall me highlighting it on several wish lists and shopping guides throughout the past year. After spending a ton of time looking into it, I finally caved in last month and have been loving every bit of it.

If you’re not already familiar with the Gucci 1955 Horsebit line, it’s important to note that there are several different bag styles available. Today, I’ll be sharing my honest thoughts on the Mini Bag, which is the smaller version of the Gucci Horsebit 1955 Shoulder bag.

What’s Special About The Bag?

As the name suggests, this line is inspired by Gucci’s design archives from the 50’s. It combines the iconic GG print with Gucci’s equestrian heritage and modern design aesthetics for a truly timeless piece. What makes the Gucci Horsebit 1955 Mini Handbag so special to me is that it comes with two different shoulder straps, making the bag wearable in any situation. The rounded edges and front flap with the horsebit detail also make it unlike anything I own.

I love that I can carry the bag with the tonal leather strap for a more structured look or transform it to something more casual with the red and green strap (pictured below). There’s even the option to lose the straps completely for an elegant clutch. With so many different ways to wear it, you can be sure that this handbag will get maximum usage. 

Does It Hold A Lot?

The Gucci Horsebit 1955 Mini Handbag measures 8.1 in x 5.7 in x 2 in, making it a true crossbody bag that doesn’t hold a whole lot – but holds just enough! Whenever I’m on-the-go, traveling, or running errands, I prefer to be hands-free. This bag is perfect for just that – it fits my iPhone 11 Pro Max, card holder, keys, and sunglasses. 

Does It Hold Its Shape?

This handbag is definitely structured and feels more rigid, but it’s quite simple to get in and out of. I’ve had the bag for less than a month so I haven’t had any issues with the shape. However, I would avoid stuffing it with as many items as you can in order to help preserve the bag. I know Gucci also recommends stuffing the bag with tissue paper when you’re not carrying it to help maintain the shape. 

Does It Get Dirty Easily?

This handbag is constructed of leather and Gucci’s Supreme canvas – both of which are insanely durable. I haven’t seen any signs of wear or scratches on the leather trim even with normal daily use. The Supreme canvas is known for its durability. I know this from personal experience with my Dionysus bag – and this one lives up to my expectations. It’s so easy to wipe clean with a soft cloth if you run into issues of getting it dirty.

Where To Buy It?

I purchased my Gucci Horsebit 1955 Mini Handbag directly from the Gucci site. However, you can find it at luxury retailers like Net-A-Porter and MyTheresa. I haven’t really seen this particular bag in this size anywhere else – but any of those three options are failproof.

Would I Buy It Again?

This is a resounding yes for me! I’m all for classic pieces with a modern spin and I think this handbag is the epitome of that. The two different strap options and structured design makes it one of the most versatile bags I own. It’s also such an iconic piece that will remain relevant years down the road. I’d highly recommend it to everyone who’s in the market for a new crossbody bag.
