The end of summer is quickly approaching, which means it’s time to look forward to the change of season ahead. It’s still too early for heavy coats and boots, so I typically take this time to invest in versatile, transitional pieces that I can wear now and later. Think lightweight knits and moody dresses that look just as good for balmy end-of-summer days as they do during the cooler temperatures. Saks Fifth Avenue is one of the first places I look to for transitional pieces that will last me through the end of the year. Their broad selection of designer pieces and exclusive promotions are a great way to save on high-quality staples. So whether you’re ready to retire those summer outfits or just want to toss some fall pieces into the mix, here are the transitional pieces to buy now.

It’s never not a good time to buy a dress. However, you probably want to pull the reins on bold summery prints like tropical florals. Those pieces tend to be harder to transition into fall. Instead, opt for dark moody florals and deep colors that would work for special occasions later in the year. This Zimmermann dress comes in a few colors that are ideal for the colder seasons, but I instantly fell in love with the deep burgundy color. It’s so easy to wear now with nude heels. This pair by Gianvito Rossi has been on my wish list for the past few months, and I finally picked them up at Saks.
Jackets & Blazers
Blazers and lightweight jackets are pieces I wear all the time, so I never hesitate to grab some updated pieces that help carry my summer pieces into fall. This upcoming season, I’m particularly excited about tweed and boucle blazers and oversized denim jackets. They’re especially smart buys if you’re headed back into the office where layers are required earlier on.
At the top of my list is probably lightweight knits from cardigans to dresses and tank tops. My eyes are especially set on collared cardigans, which never fail to make a pair of jeans feel pulled together. Light neutrals, like camel and beige, are the best colors to mix with your summer wardrobe.
Outside of jackets and sweaters, the variety of bottoms you can buy for fall is one of the best things about the season. Some of the biggest trends to keep an eye out for are straight leg denim, leather pants, and midi skirts. There’s nothing more chic than one of these options teamed with an oversized blazer.
