These Budget-Friendly Fall Staples Will Carry You Into Winter

Few things are more exciting to me than new fall staples that can be layered and styled endlessly for the coldest days ahead. Between chunky knits, trendy boots and toasty jackets, there are several options that go from chilly weather to freezing temperatures. But you really only need 6 basic pieces to make the most of your wardrobe and your budget. I’m finding that Walmart has some of the best styles to offer and wanted to round them up for you guys. Despite being expected staples, my top selects are anything but boring. And when styled intently, putting a polished outfit together becomes more effortless, especially through the holiday season. Keep scrolling for the essentials that you can wear now and straight into winter.
Sweater Dresses
Sweater dresses remain a huge focus of my fall and winter wardrobe. They’re the easiest thing to wear when you need to look your best but also stay warm. I’ve already worn this Free Assembly one from Walmart a few times and love how luxuriously soft it feels. The relaxed fit is also universally flattering, so women of all body types can pull it off.
Cardigans
Cardigans always make my list of must-have pieces for both fall and winter. I’m constantly reaching for them when I want to be comfortable running errands or grabbing dinner on a chilly evening. This season, look for unique details like a cascading hem or fringe to feel extra fancy. The waterfall design on this one instantly dresses up anything.
Half-Zip Pullovers
Half-zip sweaters are such an easy way to make your fall and winter wardrobe feel more 2021. While it’s still fall, you can layer it on top of a tank top and pair of jeans. Then come winter, pile on additional layers, like a turtleneck tee and puffer coat.
Coordinating Sets
Coordinating sets are the easiest yet elevated pieces you can wear from fall to winter. I’ve always adored matching lounge sets but dressier skirt versions have become my new go-to. Both options make a killer holiday look – and Walmart has a style for every vibe. This jogger set is great for casual family gatherings at home while this skirt set can take you to a dinner date.
Fleece and Sherpa Jackets
Lightweight fleece sweaters and sherpa coats are the coziest layers that will keep you stylish through the frigid weather. Teddy coats are actually my best kept secret for a chic cold weather look. You can layer them over the most casual outfits and they always make a statement. Once the holiday season rolls around, they’ll make your festive ensembles feel extra luxe.
Seasonal Accessories
Nothing says fall (and winter) like soft, cozy accessories and on-trend boots. I’m so obsessed with these slouch boots since they can be styled infinitely. I’ve worn them with sweater dresses, on top of jeans and with mini skirts – and they never fail to impress. You can stretch them far into winter by simply adding tights. If all-weather boots are more up your ally, Walmart also has a great selection of hiker and lug sole boots for under $50!
