Although it’s technically still fall, it’s been so cold here lately that I’ve been having to break out my favorite winter layering essentials. My go-to pieces tend to stay the same every year, often including some variation of a comfy sweater (or sweater dress), cozy jacket and over-the-knee boots. My wardrobe is mostly made up of these pieces because they always make for an easy outfit and can be styled into endless combinations. I also love that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to look chic. If you’re ready to create a winter wardrobe full of versatile layers too, I’ve selected five items from Walmart that won’t fail you even on the coldest of days.

Heavy Duty Coat

Winter is the hardest season to dress for given the snow and freezing temps. One surefire way to not skimp on style while staying warm is to be fully stocked on the right coat. I always build my winter outfits around my outerwear. My default styles are teddy bear coats, heavyweight parkas and bomber jackets with shearling trims because they’re roomy enough for chunky knits and extra layers. I recently found this one at Walmart and can’t get over how warm and snug it is. 

Casual Knits

There’s no braving the winter season without low-key, casual sweaters that you can tuck into jeans, wear as a cozy dress or layer with other knits. Winter Boots

My never-fail winter essential to complete any outfit is faux leather pants whether that’s a pair of leggings or joggers. They’re comfortable beyond belief, helping me get through my busiest days. What makes them a necessity is their versatility – you can style them with oversized sweaters, cardigans, dresses – everything. Scarves & Wraps
