Traveling to a beautiful winter destination has become an annual tradition. While we get plenty of snow here in Minnesota, it just isn’t the same when you head further west to Jackson Hole or Aspen. As much I love visiting new winter vacation spots, packing is always challenge. To make things easier, I try to plan out most of my outfits to avoid overpacking and taking up unnecessary space with items I won’t get much use out of. It really comes down to having a smart selection of reliable and trend-right staples that will get you through every activity on your break. I’ve been able to nail down my winter packing game thanks to my favorite luxe retailer, Saks Fifth Avenue. No matter what you’re traveling for, Saks has everything you need from ski outfits to après ski looks to versatile winter vacation outfits. Today happens to be one of the best times to shop for any winter vacation at Saks since you can earn a gift card up to $700 today through 12/8 (beauty items included). Scroll below for a quick look into my packing list.
1. Insulated Coat
Being out in the cold is no joke, so an insulated winter coat will go a long way even if you’re not participating in winter sports. Like most heavy duty coats, this one by SAM. is wind-resistant and water-repellent, so it’s worth every penny. Saks carries a variety of styles from more classic cuts to trendy, lustrous finishes. The best part about puffers is that you can wear them as you’re traveling, so you don’t have to worry about your luggage space.
2. Ski Sweater
A good sweater can oftentimes suffice as your only layer when paired with a great coat. I always make sure to pack a variety of wool and cashmere styles adorned with winter motifs for a playful take on winter dressing. Perfect Moment makes some of my favorites and they’re all included in the Saks Gift Card Event.
3. Base Layers
You’ll never know how cold it can get when you’re traveling, so it’s always best to p lay it safe with layers. I always make sure to have some long sleeve tees and turtleneck bodysuits that can be thrown seamlessly underneath oversized sweaters or hoodies. Go after neutral colors like black and white because you can dress them up with ease.
4. Jeans & Leggings
Playing with layers and textures is perhaps the best thing about traveling in the winter. One of the ways I keep things interesting is wearing faux leather or patent leather leggings. They’re also super lightweight and easy to pack. To look a little more put together, just one or two pairs of jeans is sufficient, especially a coated pair like this.
5. Snow Boots
You can’t visit a winter wonderland without non-slip, lug sole boots. They’re one of the ways I like to keep my bundled looks more fashion forward. Boots lined with shearling are perfect if you’re worried about the chill. Since they are bulkier, they’re another great piece to wear as you’re traveling.
6. Winter Accessories
There’s nothing better than cold weather accessories to round out a winter outfit. I always make sure to pack a few beanies, blanket scarves and gloves in soft, luxe fabrics for added warmth. One of the newer accessories I’ll be packing is a plush crossbody bag that makes it easy to travel hands free. Saint Laurent makes some of the chicest styles and they’re all included in the Saks Gift Card Event. My top picks include this boucle one, this shearling trim bag and this pillowy leather bag.
