Casual Fall Staples That Make Transitional Dressing A Breeze

We’re entering that time of the year where every retailer is showcasing covetable fall collections – but it isn’t cool enough to break out the tall boots and coats. During this tricky, in-between timeframe, there’s really nothing better to shop for than casual staples that’ll take you from summer to fall and beyond. Walmart is proving to be an amazing one-stop shop for those transitional wardrobe essentials. From footwear to knitwear and lightweight jackets to activewear, you can find just about any foundational piece that you’ll want to wear throughout the season. To top things off, pieces start at just $15 – and can be styled effortlessly for crisp, cool mornings and evenings as well as balmy days. If you’re ready to kick off the change in seasons, scroll on for the pieces I swear by to make transitional dressing a breeze.
Light Jacket
I always recommend jumpstarting your seasonal shopping at Walmart because they have so many cute jackets that don’t cost a fortune. This wool-blend shacket from Free Assembly is under $50 but feels more expensive with the thicker fabric. I wore mine with leggings and a t-shirt for a dash of cozy – but it’d also be super cute with jeans.
Knitwear
Knitwear is another transitional staple because it offers the perfect perfect blend of dressed-up style and comfort. Pieces like this ribbed sweater and this vest can stand alone now with any bottom. Come fall, they’ll keep you warm when layered with heavier coats and jackets.
Bottoms for Everyday
Now is the time to swap your shorts and skirts for comfier bottoms. You girls know I can’t live without leggings in the fall, so I picked up these seamless leggings from the Sofia Active by Sofia Vergara line. They’re buttery soft and feel like second skin. For an edgier look, these faux leather leggings are perfect!
Casual Shoes
Fall might be underway but I’ll be honest that it’s still too early for tall boots and shearling styles. If you are wanting to update your shoe situation, consider throwback-inspired trainers like this black and white pair I’m wearing. I’m also a fan of lug sole chelsea boots for that edgy, biker effect and western booties.
Seasonal Accessories
Trendy accessories are a great way to gradually transition your style into fall. Whether it’s a handbag or headwear, they won’t just freshen up your old summer looks – but will remain relevant throughout the upcoming season. This multi-pouch bag is a perfect example of that. The quilted design, adjustable strap and detachable pouch make it just right for everyday use or a night out.
