Splurge Vs. Save: Chic Spring Dresses

comments
One thing I’m constantly on the hunt for when springtime arrives is new dresses to add to my collection. After so many months of living under heavy layers and chunky knits, I’m ready for a change. I’ve always appreciated how dresses save everyone so much time when getting ready. All you need is to throw on a cute number then you can finish off your look with shoes and accessories. With that in mind, dresses are usually at the top of my shopping list in March and April. I like to cull through my closet to see which styles are missing so I know where to fill up. If you’re in need of chic spring dresses for Easter, showers, or any other occasion, here are the styles you might want to splurge versus save on…
Where I Splurge….

Cocktail Dresses
Spring is notorious for wedding season, so I always want to be prepared for the few weddings that my husband and I might be invited to. This actually gives me an excuse to invest a little more on cocktail dresses I can wear throughout the season. Splurging a little more means investing in quality pieces that fit like a glove and can transition from weddings to vacations or happy hour.
Lace Dresses (also a save)
Nothing beats the ease of throwing on a lace dress combined with how put-together it makes you feel. Every spring, I’m drawn to lace dresses in light and pastel color palettes. Brands like Self-Portrait and LOVESHACKFANCY are brands who take lace to a completely different level. I don’t mind splurging on them because they’re so unique and well-constructed. I know that what I am buying is built to last.
Maxi Dresses
During the warmer months, I love wearing elevated maxi dresses for blogger events or even a date night at my favorite restaurant. Since there can be a lot that goes wrong with maxi dresses, especially with the fit, length, and straps, this is another category I don’t mind investing more in. I typically look for complex details such as silk, chiffon, intricate embroidery, appliques, or unique prints.
Where I Save…

Sundresses
For those casual, everyday sundresses that you wear throughout the season, I prefer to save my money here. Bright and beautiful floral dresses at a decent price can be easily found from places like Asos, H&M, Nordstrom, and Shopbop.
Knit or Ribbed Dresses
It’s not just the flowy, floral dresses I prefer to save on. I also like to go the more affordable route for my knit dresses too. These breathable, mid length bodycon and tank dresses are another one of my staple pieces for this timeframe. You’ll want something light that can be layered comfortably underneath a utility or denim jacket.
Shirt Dresses
I love the utilitarian and masculine feel of shirt dresses. Despite the relaxed silhouette, they’re so flattering and sexy when paired with feminine pieces. They also double up as a light outerwear piece – simply keep the buttons undone!

Lace Dresses (also a splurge)
As much as I love high-quality lace dresses, there are also several affordable styles that feel more appropriate for everyday. Budget-friendly lace dresses are also great for outdoor weddings, brunch with the girls, or days in which you just feel like dressing up!
Linen Dresses
Cotton or linen dresses are ideal for the spring and summer season. These little dresses scream vacation mode and look amazing when paired with trendy accessories like the ever-popular straw bag. You can find some really amazing linen options now that won’t break the bank!
