fashion blogger wearing spanx faux leather leggingsFashion week is in full swing and there are tons of things to get you excited about fall fashion right now from the runways to the streets. You might be wondering which pieces you should buy into first as you gear up for the cooler weather. I always emphasize the tried-and-true staples – but there are also certain trends that are worth spending your money on. With fall underway in another two weeks, I wanted to share the trends that I believe will define the season. I’ve already got my first batch of fall shopping in and picked up so many pieces from Nordstrom. They always carry the best fall collections whether you’re shopping designer or looking for more affordable alternatives. If I ever feel uninspired with my wardrobe, I just head to the Nordstrom site for a whiff of fresh ideas and inspiration on the latest in fashion. Keep scrolling for my picks this season and how I’m wearing them.

Relaxed Tailoring

There’s no item more crucial to your wardrobe than a tailored jacket. That said, gone are the days of feminine, form-fitting outerwear. Oversized shapes with relaxed silhouettes are taking over like this coat here. The beauty of it is that you can wear it with your chunkiest knits underneath without feeling too restricted. It also looks amazing when styled with more lady-like looks. The contrast of feminine and masculine is just perfect for fall.

Chocolate Brown Hues

It’s safe to say that brown is the “It” color of the season, and if you’re looking to adopt the color trend, now’s the time to do it. I’m ogling over all the luxe brown leather pieces, chocolate knitwear, and coats that bring understated luxury to any look. One fashion rule I look forward to breaking is wearing black and brown together. I also can’t wait to create more tonal brown ensembles with directional layers as temperatures dip.

Dramatic Knitwear

Neutral knitwear is truly a classic, but it doesn’t hurt to enliven your cozy-day vibe with dramatic details. Whether that’s color-blocking, supersized cable-knit textures, or unique collars, there are tons of styles to try this season. I’m already loving the new style drops at Nordstrom – they’re cozy enough to live in but also pack a punch at the same time.

Edgy Boots

Fall always brings forth an infinite selection of covet-worthy shoes. However, I think it’s safe to say that edgy, lug sole boots reign supreme. I’m partial to both combat and chelsea boots – both of which add that cool-girl vibe to any look. Nordstrom carries some of the best styles at any price point. You can wear them with virtually anything from sweater dresses to leggings to baggy denim.

Tweed Textures

Tweed is no doubt one of the coolest fabrics to wear in 2021. It’s the epitome of classic and a surefire way to look more expensive. You can rock more traditional tweed pieces, like a dress or a blazer, or take it in the form of accessories like I did. This Saint Laurent bag is easily my new fall go-to.
