5 Emerging Trends to Look Forward to in 2022

With Christmas being just days away and New Year’s Eve rapidly approaching, I think it’s obvious that the year is rapidly coming to a close. Besides all the gatherings to come, one of the most exciting things to look forward to is all the major trends that will blow up next year. Winter may have just started, which means retailers are well stocked with fresh new styles. However, not all of them carry the emerging pieces that belong on your radar. If there’s one retailer that truly has you covered on the fashion forefront, it’s Nordstrom. They don’t just have the best mix of high and low pieces as well as classics staples – but they carry some of the most forward trends that are worth bringing into 2022. Ahead, I’ll be sharing some of my latest Nordstrom style picks that you’ll want to shop before everyone else.
1. The Catsuit
Jumpsuits and boilersuits may have taken the spotlight in previous years, but they’ll be ushered into the backseat with catsuits taking over. This ultra modern one-piece feels like your favorite yoga pants but looks way more elevated. They’re surprisingly easy to style thanks to the clean, modern lines and second-skin fit. I wore mine with sneakers and a puffer jacket for a cozy, cool look – but you can add heels for an evening look.
2. Cutouts
Fall and winter brought and array of cutout pieces, usually in the form of a shoulder slit. However, the cutout trend will be more directional come 2022. I suspect that they’ll be more daring than ever with open-back cuts and multiple openings around the waist. Nordstrom has plenty of cutout tops and dresses that you can adopt now and carry into the new year.
3. Oversized Outerwear
We have several months of winter to go, so if you’re wondering what’s trending in that arena, it’s all about oversized outerwear. You can take your pick from lofty quilted jackets to oversized blazers and menswear coats. I find that they’re most versatile light neutrals or plaid prints. You can pair them just about anything from denim to workout clothes and more. I’ll be opting for puffers like this one since they’re full of warmth!
4. Fuzzy Accessories
If you’re one to update accessories before anything else, it’s time to shop fuzzy accessories. Whether it’s a shearling hat or a faux fur tote, these plush accent pieces add another layer of coziness and plenty of style points. You can shop them at all price points below.
5. Elevated Athleisure
Athleisure continues to be debatable but I can assure you that you’ll be able to wear it long into the future. A neutral two-piece set always looks elevated with a smart coat on top. However, you can also skip the sweatsuit or workout gear and reach for a sweater set. It instantly levels up the look of comfort wear.
