Getting a new swimsuit cover up is perhaps just as important as getting a new swimsuit. This season, there are tons of different cover up options that are worth investing in depending on whether you prioritize the ease of dressing, style, or flexibility. Whether you have a tropical vacation in the books or are invited to a last minute pool party, I rounded up some of my must-have swimsuit cover ups that are incredibly easy to throw on top of your bathing suit. These easy, breezy styles look great on the beach and by the pool, but they’re just as good on a hot summer day.

Summer Dress

The beauty of the summer dress is that almost any style could work as a beach cover up if you want it to! Many times in the past, I ended up dropping one of my summer dresses over my bikini. From floral and eyelet to crochet, they’re the perfect combination of a dress and a cover up, allowing you to transition from the beach to a restaurant for lunch. Plus, it gives your favorite summer dress another purpose. This cover up option is also great if you are going to a more social gathering such as a daytime pool club or a brand event.

Kimono

Kimonos are perfect if you’re planning on spending a large chunk of time by the pool or beach. They offer minimal coverage but can still look super chic. I tend to favor tropical prints and sheer styles. You can find some really beautiful options that won’t break the bank from Forever21. One of my favorite things about kimonos is that you can also layer them with denim cut-offs in the summer for a casual chic look.

Tunic

One of the more classic swimsuit cover up styles is the tunic dress. This is generally a looser, flowy dress that can be slipped on easily over the head. Since it is so effortless, it makes for a great cover up on the days when you decide to go to the beach at the last minute. When shopping for tunics, definitely opt for ones in fabrics like cotton, linen, or viscose so you don’t overheat and that’ll help minimize wrinkling when you toss it into your beach bag.

Sarong

One of the more trendier cover up options for summer 2019 is definitely the sarong. This is essentially a long piece of fabric that is wrapped around the waist to create a skirt. This is a super cute, stylish way to cover up in the summertime. Depending on your preference, sarongs are available in bright colors, sheer fabrics, and crocheted, so you can find one to match every bathing suit you own.

Button Up Dress

As minimal fashion continues to dominate, so are neutral colored swimsuit coverups with the same aesthetic. Linen button up dresses can be worn when walking around the city or they can be layered over a bikini for the beach. Pair with a straw bag and some leather slides and your minimal vacation look is complete.

Wide Leg Pants

If you are not really a dress kind of girl, wide leg pants are a great alternative. As I mentioned before, light, breezy fabrics will be your best option so you can stay cool even when the sun is out. Pair your wide leg pants with a matching top, tank, or tee to complete your swimsuit cover up look – or just wear it with a bikini top.
