10 Summer Pieces You Can Wear from Work to the Weekend

One major factor that I always take into consideration when shopping is versatility. Since I really despise wasting money on pieces I may only wear once, I always try to think about the different ways I can style something before committing to it. My style strikes a balance of casual and tailored so I prefer to invest in garments that fall somewhere in between – but can also be dressed up for business meetings, vacations, and night outs. As we breeze through summer, I’ve realized there are really only 10 main pieces in my closet that serve that purpose. Keep scrolling for my favorite summer pieces that transition from work to the weekend.
1. Puff Sleeve Top
I’m all for tops with statement details such as puff sleeves. They can work with both sophisticated and casual ensembles depending on your styling. Pair it with a high-waisted trousers or a pencil skirt for your next business meeting or team them up with distressed jeans for your weekend adventures.
2. Pencil Skirt
A pencil skirt is a workwear essential and makes such an easy professional look in the summer. For an updated take on this classic piece, try a ribbed knit fabrication. It makes going from work to happy hour super easy and they’re on trend for fall too!
3. Silk Button Down
A neutral button down top is a must in every girl’s wardrobe regardless of whether you work in an office or not. You’ll never know when you need something timeless and formal so it’s always a good idea keep a classic silk blouse in your arsenal.
4. Basic Bodysuit
Bodysuits are so streamlined, making them perfect for layering underneath anything. For an office-appropriate outfit, pair your bodysuit with high-waisted trousers and a blazer. Then when transitioning to a weekend or nighttime look, ditch the blazer and swap out the pants for denim cutoffs and heels.
5. Cropped Trousers
As far as chic bottoms for the office go, slim cropped trousers are ideal in this heat. Not only are they super flattering with heels, but you can easily work it into a weekend outfit with a crop top and fedora.
6. Linen Blazer
As I’m sure you guys know, I can’t resist a good blazer. While it’s hot outside, try a lighter and more breathable style, such as linen. It’s a no-brainer piece that ensures you’ll look put together without being uncomfortable. Plus, it’s so easy to dress up or down for the office or the weekends.
7. Day-To-Night Heels
Day-to-night heels are a girl’s best friend in the summer. My current favorites include PVC details. Not only are they super feminine and modern, but you can easily carry them over from work to play.
8. Crossbody Bag
A neutral crossbody bag is my go-to in the summer. They’re so easy to sling over your shoulders when walking around outdoors – and I love how mini bags instantly make an outfit feel more elevated.
9. Designer Belt
Belts are such an underrated accessory. I love using my Gucci belt to add shape to my outfits whether it’s by cinching a blazer at the waist or breaking up a monochromatic look. It’s also the best accessory to dress up a basic denim look, which is what I wear most on the weekends.
10. Statement Accessories
Workwear doesn’t always have to be boring. Try jazzing up a traditional blazer or button down top with fun statement earrings. It’s an easy and creative way to liven up your office looks. They’re also super easy to transition into the weekend with more casual pieces such as a graphic tee.
