February is such a romantic month and I love having an excuse to doll up and go out. Although I wear neutrals most of the time, I’ll usually add Valentine’s Day colors to my outfits and make plans to do something fun. Phil and I both work from home, so drawing the line between work and life can be tricky. It’s holidays like this that remind us to unplug, get out of the house, and spend some quality time together. This year, I thought I’d do something a little different and round up some of my favorite date night ideas with outfits you guys can draw inspiration from.

Ice Skating
Ice skating is such a spontaneous yet fun date idea that I think all couples can do together and have a great time. After you’ve had your time in the rink, you can stop by a local bar and end the night with drinks. With ice skating being more of a casual date, I’d keep it simple with a pretty, feminine top and distressed denim. To make your outfit feel more elevated, go with blush tones and fabrics that have a sheen to it, like silk or satin.

Cozy Up By The Fire
Nothing beats cozying up by the fire with your loved one, and there are so many options for doing this. You can light up the pit in your backyard if you have one, cuddle up by the fireplace, stay at a cabin for the weekend, or stop by a restaurant with a fire pit. For a date like this, you’ll need a versatile outfit that’s both chic and casual. For me, that involves a knit midi dress or sweater set. It’ll not only keep you warm but you can easily pile on the layers.

Romantic Dinner at Home & Movies
There’s nothing more romantic than cooking dinner with your S.O. and enjoying a movie together in the comfort of your home. Phil’s definitely the better cook in our house, so I’ll usually help prep and clean up. To make it even more special, I love dressing up, lighting up a few candles, and opening a bottle of wine. One of my favorite things to wear for any special occasion is white lace. It might too early for a white lace dress, so go for a chic top that pairs well with leather leggings, wide leg pants, or even a skirt. I rarely meet a lace top that I can resist and this one is no exception – the puff shoulders and fitted sleeves are everything!

Fancy Dinner Followed By A Local Tour
Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be about flowers, chocolates, and expensive gifts. In fact, sentimental gifts are my favorite. If you’re in the mood to do something a little different, plan a nice dinner date and then take each other to your favorite spots around town. It’s such a fun way to relive special memories and make new ones. With all of the cozy layers I wear in the winter, I like to switch it up with something more fun for a night out. A red cocktail dress is usually my go-to on Valentine’s Day. I can’t get over how romantic, sexy, and feminine it looks.

Shopping & Movie Night
With the holiday falling on a Friday this year, many of you may be transitioning from the office to date night. A leather pencil skirt and festive sweater is a great outfit that goes seamlessly from desk to drinks. When I still worked in corporate, Phil and I loved celebrating Valentine’s Day by doing a little shopping whether that was at the mall or antique shopping, then heading out to the movies. You can always throw in a casual dinner in between too. Although this is quite simple, it always makes for a great night.

Wine & Paint
If you and your S.O. love bonding over new things together, try a paint and wine session before or after dinner. I love that you get to take something home with you that can be displayed later. A date idea like this requires a more practical outfit – like a jumpsuit. It’s the perfect option if you want to be comfy but still look fashionable and put together.
