fashion blogger mia mia mine wearing a palm print dress at the modern hotel in honolulu hawaiiSummer is the season for swimsuits and cover-ups! Although I won’t be going anywhere exotic this summer, I’d definitely jump at the opportunity to lay out in the sun or spend a day out on the lake. Some of the pieces I always like to have on hand in case the opportunity arises are cute swimwear and beautiful cover-ups to go with them. This helps ensure I’ll be comfortable no matter where I am. There are so many trendy styles out there, but I naturally gravitate towards pieces that serve multiple purposes. I love the idea of being able to wear something beyond its intended use – and honestly, it’s easier to look put together on the fly with versatile pieces. I scoured the Internet for the best swimsuits and cover-ups you can buy right now and wanted to share them below.

Shirt Dresses

When it comes to beach or swim cover-ups, shirt dresses are as versatile as it gets. You can wear it as an open jacket over your bikini or buttoned up as a dress. I tend to gravitate towards baggier, oversized styles in lightweight fabrics like gauze or linen to maximize that casual, breezy beach vibe. I just love how effortless it looks every time.

Robes & Kimonos

If you plan to spend most of your day on the beach or by the pool, a robe or kimono is the way to go. They’re super easy to slip on and peel off – and also look incredibly chic over denim cutoffs. Floor-grazing kimonos are my favorite since they feel a little more elegant, but cropped styles can be cute too.

Jumpsuits & Rompers

If you only go swimming a few times a year – or don’t plan to spend a ton of time by the water this summer, a jumpsuit or romper is ideal as a cover-up. I love that either style doubles up as daywear, so you can continue to make great use of it after a trip to the beach or pool. Try to go for a strapless style, like this one, since they’re easier to change in and out of.

Kaftans & Dresses

Kaftans and pullover dresses are another great option because they transition seamlessly from a swimming situation to a restaurant. This is usually my cover-up of choice when I know I won’t have a lot of time to change in between events. I always keep an eye out for feminine details like cutouts, embellishments and flirty silhouettes.

Swimwear Picks

Treating myself to a new swimsuit is one of my favorite ways to kick off the summer season. I recently shared my favorite swimwear trends here but also wanted to highlight a few more that would go well with any of the swimsuit cover-ups listed above. I’ve been obsessing over one-shoulder bikinis, underwire tops, and hoop details. These accents will add an unexpected flair to your swim collection this summer.
