And that’s a coat or jacket. It’s obvious by now that I can’t live without either. What I love most is that you can essentially build your entire cold weather wardrobe around them. With the right silhouettes on hand, they’ll never let you down. If you’re not sure which ones are the most essential, I’m breaking down 8 styles that will live on forever.

1. Camel Coat

There aren’t many outerwear styles that’s as iconic as the camel coat. It’s classic, polished, and wearable anywhere. Camel coats come in endless designs from pea coats to military coats and wrap silhouettes to maxi lengths. No matter what your pick is, you can be sure that you’ll always look on point with one thrown over your shoulders.

2. Puffer Coat

Puffer coats were traditionally worn more for function rather than style, but that’s changed completely in recent years. With so many renditions at your finger tips, you can quickly transform a casual outfit and make it look instantly cool. Lightweight, quilted jackets will see tons of wear through fall while faux leather and shearling puffers will be lifesavers in the winter.

3. Trench Coat

Nothing beats the timelessness of a trench coat. Despite being around for decades, much about it hasn’t changed, proving that it’s an enduring piece worth investing in. I’ll always favor a classic beige trench – I just love how it makes everything look more expensive.

4. Wrap Coat

If you don’t already own a wrap coat, you’re missing out on an insanely versatile piece. It not only makes you feel like you’re wearing a robe outside but keeps you looking polished and feminine in the easiest way possible.

5. Biker Jacket

It’s no surprise that the biker jacket is a tried-and-true coat staple. I love wearing mine – not just in the fall – but throughout the year. Just pair them with a basic top (or sweater), jeans, and heels and you’re all set to go. If you’re looking for a warmer option, the shearling biker jacket will never fail you.

6. Shearling Coat

Max Mara started the shearling coat trend in 2013, and fashion girls just can’t seem to stop wearing it. I really can’t blame them since it essentially feels like you’re wrapped up in the fuzziest blanket. Every season, I notice brands dropping different cuts in various prints and colors, which is a surefire sign that it won’t be dying out anytime soon.

7. Cardigan Coat (Coatigan)

The coatigan is the best thing you can possibly own right around this time of the year. It’s comfy like a cardigan with the structure of a coat and has enough weight to keep you warm. I’m all about this newer trend turned wardrobe staple. They are so easy to layer over anything.

8. Parka Coat

Finally, there’s no surviving in freezing temperatures without the parka. Filled with down insulation and complete with endless pockets, you’ll be ready to tackle anything while staying nice and toasty. Below, I pulled some of the season’s best styles at every price point.
