Despite having a closet full of clothes, we all have those moments when we feel like we just don’t have anything to wear. It may be the result of waking up a few minutes late or even dealing with a bad hair day. Either way, the best solution to combatting the feeling of having nothing to wear is outfit formulas. They’re great because they actually work and can pull you together in seconds. Off the top of my head, there are 6 options that I always fall back on, which I’ll be breaking down today. The best part about these casual outfit formulas is that anyone can adapt them to their wardrobe for any situation.

1. Cardigan, Sweater & Over-The-Knee Boots
Fall is the perfect season for outfit formulas because of the endless layers you can mix and match. One of my favorite looks is a turtleneck sweater with OTK boots and a duster cardigan – preferably in a neutral color. It strikes the perfect balance of casual yet dressy – and always looks seasonably chic. You can wear this look with leggings, denim or skip the pants in favor of knit dresses.
2. Chunky Knit Sweater, Coated Jeans & Lug Sole Boots
A chunky knit sweater is a staple that can be found in every girl’s closet. Fortunately, it always comes in handy when you’re stuck in a style rut. Just pair it with some coated jeans and trendy lug sole boots – and you’re all set.

3. Blazer, Basic Tee & Denim
A blazer comes to rescue when you need it most as seen in this next outfit combo. I love a smart, tailored blazer with a simple tee and jeans. It works with every denim silhouette – and you can always get creative with accessories. Perhaps my favorite thing about this formula is that it looks amazing with every shoe type from boots to pumps and sandals.
4. Matching Sweatsuit & Combat Boots
When the temperatures are cool and you don’t have to be anywhere formal, keep your outfit easy with a matching sweatsuit and combat boots. A luxe handbag is all that’s needed to elevate this casual fit.
5. Shacket, Faux Leather Leggings & Combat Boots
A good outerwear piece is my go-to on any given day, and this season, it’s all about the shacket. I firmly believe everyone needs this versatile layer. When you don’t know what to wear, faux leather leggings and knit top with some combat boots always looks complete.
6. Cropped Cardigan, Jeans & Sneakers
A cropped cardigan is perfect when you want to be laidback but still on trend. I’ll often wear mine buttoned up and tucked into a pair of high-waisted jeans for that timelessly chic effect that requires minimal effort. You can layer a neutral coat on top and slip into some sneakers for added comfort.
