How to Make Athleisure Look Luxe

fashion blogger mia mia mine wearing a puffer jacket and adidas sneakersIt’s obvious that athleisure is there to stay, and I couldn’t be more excited for it. I’ll even admit that I’ve been living in nothing but loungewear most days and my comfort levels are at an all-time high. However, this prioritization of comfort makes it easy fall into the trap letting the style aspect slip away. If you’re guilty of reaching for the same cozy look time and time again, you’ll be pleased to know that there are a few tips you can employ to make athleisure look luxe anytime. Whether you’re getting dressed to go out or leaving the gym, try one of my five tips below to nail that model-off-duty vibe.

1. Incorporate High-Shine Textures

Bringing in high-contract, unexpected textures are an easy solution to make your most basic workout set feel luxe. I love the edginess of a high-shine puffer jacket against a ribbed set, although patent leather leggings are just as effective. With these bold, eye-catching pieces, you can keep the rest of your look minimal.

2. Add A Sophisticated Coat

If texture isn’t really your thing, you can always reach for a chic, sophisticated coat. I swear by neutral outerwear or even a trench coat to transform sportswear pieces into a modern look that feels balanced. This layering trick works for both sweatsuits and legging sets.

3. Color Coordinate Your Look

Dressing up super casual athleisure pieces is all about color-coordinating. This is something you guys will often see me do. For instance, pairing a green workout set with green sneakers and a green hat. I also love matching beige with camel accessories or a red sweatsuit with black accents. The combinations are truly endless.

4. Reach For Casual Cool Kicks

A key factor in mastering the chic athleisure trend is having the right shoes – and dirty, worn-in kicks are not part of the equation. Of course you need those for the gym, but when you’re not working out, reach for a fresh, clean pair. I prefer fashion sneakers with a sleek, modern design. Lucky for us, there are so many affordable styles out there from Nike to Adidas to Veja and many more.

5. Throw On A Fleece Jacket or Pullover

If you’re looking to take the basic athleisure fit a step further, seek out a cropped sherpa jacket or a fleece pullover to bring that perfect cozy touch. Faux fur textures have a way of making any outfit look more expensive so you can’t go wrong here. Plus, it adds a fashion forward twist to sporty ensembles.
