As the weather heats up, hemlines naturally get higher. So, I wanted to talk all about shorts today. I’ll be focusing on my favorite styles outside of denim since I’ve covered that previously HERE. The start of summer always delivers the chicest short styles from paperbag waist to bold prints. With so many options at your fingertips, they make one of the best starting points for cute summer outfits. There’s no end to styling them either whether you want to dress them up or down, so they’re the ideal piece to wear when it’s warm outside. If you’re ready to break out your summer shorts, read on for my all-time favorite styles and go-to fashion hacks.

1. Statement Shorts
Shorts tend to be casual by nature, so when I want to feel a little dressier, I default to a printed pair. Animal patterns, like snakeskin or leopard, are great conversation starters. And though seemingly tricky to mix with other pieces, all you need are some basics in solid neutral colors.

2. Utility Shorts
I’m all about mixing high-contrast aesthetics for an interesting look – and this outfit is a perfect example of that. A feminine, embellished camisole with utility shorts create a unique ensemble that will carry you from day to night.

3. Paperbag Waist Shorts
Paperbag waist shorts are one of the most flattering styles you can possibly own. Often featuring a rumpled waist with a belt that highlights your shape, they look amazing with dressy tops and casual knits alike. Given their versatility, you can even style them with flats, sneakers, or heels.

4. Faux Leather Shorts
If you love that edgy, cool-girl look as much as I do, then you need a pair of faux leather shorts. They can be too much in the sticky heat, but you won’t have that issue as long as you go after a lighter material in a loose, boxer-like fit. Above, I styled mine with a blazer vest. However, it’s just as good with casual basics, like a button-down top or plain white tee.

5. Biker Shorts
Longer shorts are all the rage these days, and I can’t think of a better way to lean into the trend than with biker shorts. They’re great because they tread the line between lounge and casual wear. It simply depends on your top and footwear. For instance, a crop top and heels feel polished and pulled together while an oversized shirt and sneakers are more laidback.

6. Linen
Since my style tends to be more casual, I personally love wearing shorts for the carefree touch they lend to an outfit. A linen pair always gives me breezy beach vibes. Nothing looks as crisp and cool with linen shorts as a white top whether that’s a racer tank top or a button-down shirt.
